Thomas Wolfe (Tom) Burney, age 83, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, passed away from this life on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Robinson Nursing and Rehabilitation in North Little Rock, Arkansas after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on November 13, 1939, in Gatesville, Texas, the second son of Woodson Pennington (Woody) and Antha Ava Wolfe Burney.
The Burney family moved to Arkansas twice; once when Tom was a toddler and again when he was 9 years old. He attended school at Wooster and Conway. With bright blue eyes and red hair, his mother called him her “colorful” child. His bright spirit endeared him to his entire family, especially his many cousins, and to most anyone he met. He was a faithful man; to his wife, children, parents, brothers, extended family, friends, employers and coworkers. In retirement, he loved nothing better than spending time on his land in North Pulaski County.
Tom spent his adult years in Conway and Jacksonville. He worked in the glass trade as a glazier for 40 years and was employed for most of those by Central Glass of Sherwood, Arkansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Bobbie Jo, of Jacksonville; two sons, Keith Burney of Searcy and Steven Burney (Misty) of Beebe; his “bonus” daughter, Susan Schultz Johnson (John) of Vilonia; a granddaughter, Sabrina Guinnip (Eric) of Beebe; and a grandson, Matthew Johnson of Conway. He is also survived by three brothers, John W. Burney of Hot Springs, Robert J. Burney and Bill F. Burney (Judie) both of Conway; and a number of nephews and nieces.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 2:00pm in the chapel at A Natural State Funeral Service in Jacksonville, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
Cremation arrangements are by A Natural State Funeral Service 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076. 501-982-3400. Online guestbook available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com
