John David Bumpus, 88, of Little Rock was gently called home during the early morning hours of Monday, July 15, 2024. John was born on October 28, 1935 in Sylvania, Arkansas to Jackson David and Stella Bumpus (Eagle). After high school and a short tenure at American Radio Furniture Company, John began his life-long career at the North Little Rock Electric Department where he served the city of NLR for over forty years, retiring in 2007.
John was the kindest man you could ever meet – he would do anything he could for anybody, whether you were family, friend, neighbor or stranger. He was always known for listening more than he talked (he said you could learn more that way) – but when he did speak, everyone paid attention. He was strong in so many ways – a good man; hard worker that took care of his family – always putting others before himself.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Naomi “Dit” Bumpus (Lowry) and an infant son, Gary Wayne Bumpus. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Bumpus Hampton, and grandson, Jason David Hampton; both of Little Rock. John was an only child – but the large Lowry family welcomed him into their extended families, leaving many that will miss his gentle soul.
John was blessed again with a large, loving family when he married Mary Griffith (Crow) in the summer of 1993. Mary’s children and their respective families (including grandchildren and even great grandchildren) became a blessing from the beginning – Mike Griffith (Belinda), Jan Parsons (Robert), and Danny Griffith (Cindi). John’s strong and honest character will be missed by many people in both families as well as many friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 12:00pm at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church; 17201 Arch Street, Little Rock, Arkansas. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will follow the service at Landmark Cemetery.
